its their r group. Variations in R group usually lead to different amino acid. E.g Glycine has H(Hydrogen) as its R group, while Alanine has CH3 as its R group. mom makes me listen to her old school stuff so yeah >.<
The R group is different in each amino acid. Most of the time the R group is what defines the specific acid. An amino acid also contains a carboxyl group.
