He teaches the value of relationships, he shows Greg the clippings that he had given to his son before the war.

When Lemon’s son died, he realized that his son had valued the clippings as if they were his own treasure. This helped Lemon see the bond that they two shared.

Greg learns that his relationship with his father is much more valuable than he thinks and that he has a lot to learn from him.
