The effect of the Common Sense publication on the Colonists was that it convinced several colonists that American independence was needed.

What was Common Sense?

This was a publication by Thomas Paine in which he called for independence for the American colonies.

His reasons were quite compelling and this convinced a lot of Americans of the need for independence.
