To begin solving we need to isolate the variable.

To do that we can subtract 4 from both side

3x -4 = 13 - 4

Simplified it would be

3x = 9

Now we need to continue to isolate the variable.

To do that we divide both sides by 3

3x/3 = 9/3

Simplified it would be

x = 3
