Walking away is a refusal skill that does not always work because by doing so you are often simply avoiding the problem. If you deal with the problem instead of walking away (ex. talk through it, sort through problems), you are dealing with the situation instead of just avoiding the situation as you would by walking away.

Also, walking away just pushes the problem aside as dealing with it eventually eliminates the problem.
