What did the untied states hope to achieve with its air war in Vietnam

mostly the benefits that the US gained fro Vietnam war were successes in improving military and weapons power. The F-4 phatom was "a kid" when it first came in use. Through combat air-to-ground and air-to-air in Vietnam, the the F-4 phatom improved very much with new upgrades l, new tools and better-experienced pilots.
