We can start from [tex]x=-5[/tex] and multiply/divide both sides to generate an equation that has -5 as a solution. For example, if we multiply both sides by 3, we have

[tex]3x=-15[/tex]

And this equation must be solved by dividing both sides by 3.

Vice versa, if we divide both sides by 2, we have

[tex]\dfrac{x}{2}=-\dfrac{5}{2}[/tex]

And this equation must be solved by multiplying both sides by 2.
