Answer: 6.428  0r 6 3/7  yards wide

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1

Area of a rectangular or square  garden is given as = Length x width

we were given

Length as 1 1/yards long

an area as  8 4/7 square yards

Therefore width= ?

Step 2----Solving

Area= Length x width

WIDTH = Area / Length

=  8 4/7 square yards/1 1/3 yards long

8.571/1.3333 = 6.428 yards wide

Or can be calculated as

60/7 x 3/4= 45/7 =6 3/7  yards wide
