Distance Formula: [tex]\sqrt{(x_2 - x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2}[/tex]

First, plug the two points in.

(6, 2)      ( 1, -4)

x1  y1      x2  y2

[tex]\sqrt{(1 - 6)^2 + (-4-2)^2}\\\sqrt{(-5)^2 + (-6)^2}\\\sqrt{25 + 36}\\\sqrt{61}[/tex]

The square root of 61 is axproximately 7.8
