This is a right angled triangle so, we can use pythagoras theorem, that is

  • H² = P² + B² { H = Hypotenus; P = Perpendicular; B = Base }

And from the question we have;

  • H = 6.1 yd
  • B = 1.1 yd
  • P = a { we need to find }

Put all of these values in pythagoras theorem;

  • H² = P² + B²
  • 6.1² = a² + 1.1²
  • 37.21 - 1.21 = a²
  • √36.00 = a
  • 6 yb = a

Thus, the value of the missing length of the triangle is 6 yb.
