The Ottoman Empire tried to westernize several ways. Two ways that they did westernize was their military forces and their parliament. When they tried to westernize the parliament it was called the Tanzimat Movement. However, they had 3 obstacles to overcome in that movement. They had the power of the Sultan, the power of Islam, and also conflicting desires of all nationalities. Abdul Hamid II put a stop to the reform.
