The progressives see in the expansion of the governmental powers in wartime an opportunity because of the further reach in the society it gave them as well as the furthered power gave the potential for their desired reforms to become effected . Though the success of progressives may have risen and fallen leading up to the war , they clearly took advantage of every avenue the war offered to promote their goals.
