it can either be refraction or diffraction.

refraction - bending of a wave or light as it passes from one medium into another, or as it passes through a non-uniform medium.

diffraction - bending of a wave or light in a homogeneous medium around obstacles or through a narrow opening.

As you can see the difference between the two is that diffraction is related to obstacles or narrow openings.
