It's a 4th degree polynomial since the largest degree (exponent) is 4

3x^4 - 9x^3 - 3x^2 + 6

when ur polynomial has only one variable, which this one does, it only has one variable and it is x, then the degree of the polynomial is the highest exponent. Now if u have more then one variable, then this does not apply.

since ur highest exponent is 4, then this is a 4th degree polynomial
