When culturing a wound the nurse should obtain the sample from the GRANULATION TISSUE SURFACE OF THE WOUND. Wounds are usually cultured in order to determine the micro organism that has infected the wound so that an appropriate antibiotic can be prescribed. There are different types of wound culture and the type of wound culture will determine where the sample is obtained on the wound.
