The Rosetta Stone was important because it a) helped decode hieroglyphics. This is because the Rosetta Stone contains a translated text of the hieroglyphic writing in Demotic writing and Ancient Greek, which archaeologists were able to translate and this was the first piece of writing in hieroglyphics they were able to translate.
