The appropriate response is dealignment. It is a pattern or process whereby a substantial segment of the electorate relinquishes its past factional alliance, without building up another one to supplant it. It has appeared differently in relation to realignment. Dealignment is where individuals from a social class quit adjusting themselves as far as class and trust that they never again have a place with a specific class. A case of this would be if the regular workers started to see themselves as a lower white-collar class.
