In March 2003, the United States-led forces launched invasion in Iraq. It lasted from March to May 2003 signaling the start of the Iraq war. It was named as the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" by the United States. A large number of troops (177,194) were initially sent to Iraq during the start of the invasion.
