One possibly for a rectangle could be the sides equal 15 and 5.
So
15 + 15 = 30
and
5 + 5 = 10
So
30 + 10 = 40

The longest side would then be 10 units longer than the shorter side

Answer:

10

Step-by-step explanation:

40=2a-3+2a+3a+1

Add like terms.

40=7a-2

Get 'a' by itself.

40(+2)=7a-2(+2) [2 cancels out]

42(÷7)=7a(÷7) [7 cancels out]

a=6

Plug in the answer for equations.

Biggest: 3(6)+1= 18+1= 19

Smallest: 2(6)-3= 12-3=9

Subtract the smallest from the biggest.

19-9=10
