Explanation:

Odysseus lies about his identity  because he is a liar and also he wants to test Eumaeus to make sure that he is still loyal to Odysseus. Odysseus needed to be certain of his loyalty, that is why he tested him. If Eumaeus had of been helping the suitors instead, things would have ended very differently. In the end he proved to be loyal to Odysseus.
