In "rip van winkle," what are the american citizens more fond of discussing than they had been prior to independence?

The American citizens are more fond of talking about citizen's rights, liberty, congress, voting, busy and busting atmosphere of the town etc..Before independence they were not interested in such topics as they could not speak about liberty and rights.
